EAST-END IDENTITIES
THIS SELF-PORTRAIT SERIES IS A VISUAL EXPLORATION OF THE IDENTITIES THAT I'VE PROGRESSIVELY DEVELOPED WHILE GROWING UP IN THE EAST-END AREA OF MONTREAL.
EAST-END IDENTITIES IS ABOUT MY INTERSECTIONAL IDENTITY, AND THE COMMUNITY I GREW UP IN AS A THIRD-GENERATION CANADIAN-ITALIAN. EACH SELF-PORTRAIT DEPICTS MY PERSONAL CHILDHOOD MEMORIES BY EMBODYING MYSELF IN SPACES THAT ARE CLOSE TO ME AND HOLD A DEEPER SIGNIFICANCE TO ME.
THIS PHOTO SERIES EVOKES SENTIMENTALITY AND CELEBRATION OF THE PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE, AND THE BIRTH OF A NEW ERA FOR MY FUTURE SELF. ALL OF THESE SELF-PORTRAITS VISUALLY ARTICULATE THE EMBODIMENT OF GROWING UP IN THE EAST-END OF MONTREAL. THIS PIECE IS DONE IN DOCUMENTARY FORM, BY PLACING MYSELF IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS IN REFLECTION TO THE IDENTITY THAT I HAVE DEVELOPED AND PROGRESSED OVER TIME.
